The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.””
Jonah 1:1-2 NIV
How many times have we (you. I. ) been asked by the Lord to do something and we have gone the other way? Or, when we have responded as asked and it not gone the way WE wanted and then we had a little human moment afterward.
It can be as simple as being prompted to help someone on the street and brushing it off with “I don’t have time for that” or money or whatever. Or simply saying “they’ll just” and moving on.
Our job is not to decide how THEY will respond. Our job is to respond as God is calling US to respond.
Obedience. This is not a word to be taken lightly. It’s also not an easy word. Any 2-years-old will teach you that. Obedience is a choice. Daily, methodically, like breathing in and out. Obedience must become part of who we are as believers. The closer you abide with the Lord, the greater the desire to be obedient becomes. The more you walk in obedience, the greater the challenges become. Expect that. There are forces that do not like it when believers walk in obedience to the Lord. Many will not understand. Some will ridicule. Others will drop you like it’s hot.
We cannot control reactions. We can only choose to walk in obedience to the Lord.
Dear Lord, teach me obedience.
